Essex Lion heads to Edinburgh

Luke-wright-A2C-posterIt’s that time of year again. I’ll soon be heading north of the border for 25 performances of my new show ESSEX LION. It’s scary (what will they think?), it’s exciting (I made this!) and it’s emotional (daddy, when will you be home?). I pour 90% of my creative energy in any one year into my shows. I think this is the best of them, the poems are the best I’ve done on stage, but it needs to be more than that, the show needs to hang together, it needs to be more than the sum of its parts.

I’ve performed the show 5 times. The last of which was at Latitude this past weekend. That was exciting, we had about 900 people in the poetry tent and the response was great. Exactly what I needed ahead of the Edinburgh experience. Now only time will tell.

I’m looking forward to all the late nights, to climbing Arthur’s Seat, to eating greasy pizzas in Central at 3am, to seeing all the comics I only see once a year, to weak lager in Brook’s Bar, to a plethora of extra shows, to scanning the Scotsman at midnight for my review, to drinking with Ant and Steve and all the Escalator people, to living with John Osborne, to coming home again. Here we go…
