I’ve put on poetry gigs and run poetry clubs since I was 17. I’ve programmed tents/events for festival such as Port Eliot and Gold and even had my own marquee on the Meadows at The Edinburgh Fringe. From 2007-2009 I worked for Writers’ Centre Norwich as their live-literature co-ordinator (with Laura Stimson). We ran The Poetry Link, a network of individual clubs in five towns across The East of England.
My biggest programming job is for Latitude Festival. Since 2006 I’ve co-curated (with Tania Harrison) the Spoken Word Arena. We have played host to the likes of Patti Smith, Roger McGough, John Cooper Clarke, Carol Ann Duffy, Adrian Mitchell, Andrew Motion, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Brian Patten, Benjamin Zephaniah, John Hegley, Thurston Moore, Liz Lochhead, Daniel Kitson, Simon Armitage, Wendy Cope, Blake Morrison, Scroobius Pip, Kate Tempest and many many more. We programme around 60 poets each year making us one of the largest poetry events in Europe.
My current club is The Stand-Up Poetry Club which I run monthly at Norwich Arts Centre and quarterly as Diss Corn Hall. Here we showcase the best of the current scene.
