As Edinburgh trudges inevitably towards the get-out I find myself ill in bed. Proper snotty, chicken soup, hot/cold ill. Yuk! I almost collapsed during the show yesterday. Since then I’ve spent the time re-cooperating; listening to This American Life and steaming my head. I’m getting there. I’m dreading the show today but I’ve [...]

I wrote an article for Threeweeks about reviews and artists’ responses to them. You can read it here.
In the article I conclude that in order to get over the bad reviews we have to first get over the good ones; that despair from a bad review is not artistic self-loathing or [...]

The kind and discerning Bruce Dessau has seen fit to write about my show on his blog. Bruce is a very well respected critic and I’m really flattered he liked the show so much. Read it here.

At last the reviews are coming in.
Yesterday I got this five star one from allthefestivals.com
and this four star one from Fest.
Onwards and upwards. And don’t forget Purple Ronnie’s Stand-Up Poetry Club on Thursday night. 23.45 - Udderbelly. Featuring me, Dockers MC and Phill Jupitus (yes, the Phill Jupitus)

Another review in today. A good ‘un too. It couldn’t come a moment too soon. With no reviews coming out the show hasn’t had as bigger audiences as it might. It’s still selling well but with no stars to plaster all over my posters it’s harder to sell out.
Still stuff like this should help:

First review just in.
It’s good but still a little disappointed that I couldn’t resist looking.
Show going well. Crowds big and enjoying it.
I am too. Here’s that review

It’s 6.30 and my son is lying on the bed next to me half drunk on the milk I’ve just fed him. We’re in Manchester. We’re at my inlaws, my wife is asleep in the other room. I’m going to wake her up in a moment and we’ll head north to Edinburgh for a [...]
